For the first time ever Dora Frankel Ensemble, dance company based in Newcastle will perform at the Fringe, bringing the immersive, spine tingling performance Fragments of Poe to both Durham and Newcastle Fringe from 25th
-27th July.
Fragments of Poe is a gothic, macabre, quirky and, sometimes playful dance theatre work with film, dipping into and inspired by some of Edgar Allan Poe’s stories such as ‘The Man of the Crowd’, ‘The Strange Case of M. Waldemar’ and ‘The Descent into the Maelstrom’.
Created with Dora’s raw, beautiful and typically unsettling agender style dancers Giacomo Pini and Zara Sands inhabit a strange world, inventively costumed by Kate Collins and lit and staged by Mark Parry and Kirk Sim, with music by Roma Yagnik. Projections and scene and shape shifting will take you to the dark side, the human and non – human.
“Voyeuristic and unsettling while strong and romantic showing the relevance of Poe’s writing in the modern era” audience member.
Choreography by Dora Frankel (founder Fertile Ground Dance company) with contributions from the dancers, this work is site responsive so expect Durham and Newcastle shows to be a little different! Fragments of Poe is perfect for 11+, Poe enthusiasts, culture vultures, the curious and the queer.
Dress for the part and be ready to hiss and shudder. With thanks to Durham Fringe and Newcastle Fringe.
